Grameen Development Society -GDS

O R G A N I Z A T I O N   P R O F I L End:

Grameen Development Society -GDS has been incepted in 1999 by its present Executive Director. The organization has been formed as a community based non-profitable, non-political and non government voluntary organization. It is registered with Social Welfare Directorate, and Women. Though initially, GDS was set up to ensure women’s right & leadership, at present GDS is conducting the activities like women empowerment & leadership, safe water supply & sanitation, preserving rights for women and children, legal aid support and education, literacy education for the underprivileged, reproductive health education for the adolescents, HIV/AIDS and STI prevention, preserving civic and human rights, combating violence against women and children etc. All the activities are conducted according to its approved Constitution. The organization is accountable to its stakeholders, community people and Executive Committee.
Within 8 years, GDS becomes one of the reputed, accountable and sincere organization in Barisal region. Now the organization is working in 4 districts of Barisal division with 8 project offices. The organization is now also equipped with capable and skilled manpower, adequate facilities & materials, latest information technology system, communication modules etc.
GDS believes to address integrated approach to develop the community people SPIRITUALLY. Therefore, the organization is concentrating on four major activities like POVERTY ERADICATION, LEGAL AID EDUCATION, PRIMARY HEALTH CARE & BASIC LITERACY. We believe, if these major demand of the community people can be met up, their lifestyle will turn towards a positive attitude, and a positive lifestyle will certainly develop the individuals, society, as well as the community.

While addressing a program in a certain area, GDS considers the factors like ‘RELIGIOUS SENTIMENT”, “RULES OF LAW” and “CULTURE & HERITAGE” of that particular area. The organization does not do anything that goes against the existing values of mankind, society and the state.

With the pace of time, GDS is also looking forward for an even better tomorrow both for itself and its community people.

The overall goal of the organization is to establish a right based society for the disadvantaged people.

The specific objectives of the organization are the following:To ensure women’s rights of decision making at different levels and increase their participation in income generating activities as well as creating leadership.To establish and uphold the social and human rights of the disadvantaged people of the society.To change the life style of the target people by providing proper health & education.To ensure a peaceful society by defending the negative impacts on environment.To assist the target group financially and legally to reduce their dependency on money lender.eg
